“Always do what you are afraid to do.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
I like list making. Life feels more organized, tidier, less overwhelming, more simplified, more accessible and friendlier with lists.
One of the lists I have been working on is, “What brings me to life?”
On the list, I wrote without thinking, a challenge.
Really? A challenge? Crap! Life is challenging enough!
But the kind of challenge I am thinking about is the kind that simultaneously lights us up and scares us.
And being scared makes us feel alive. And feeling alive is better than feeling dead.
So in light of this revelation, I am challenging myself to write a blog post a day for a month. I am choosing to trust that a post will appear every day like author, Seth Godin, says it will. I’m going to practice trusting and believing in abundance rather than scarcity. I’m going to practice believing in myself.
And trust me, I feel so intimidated by this challenge on so many different levels.
Intimidated because: A) I am scared of the unknown. B) I feel out of control. C) I don’t have time to write daily (this is an excuse). D) It makes me feel vulnerable and exposed and what exactly is the point? E) There will not be enough time for editing so these posts will be messier, shorter, not polished enough, and ripe with mistakes. F) What will others think of this…self indulgent, boring, stupid? AND G: What if I fail miserably?
BUT what if I don’t? What if I learn something new along the way? What if I end up feeling more refreshed, more creative, and committed to my writing practice?
If you find yourself feeling a certain little spark, a warm flutter of nervousness in your gut, then challenge yourself with me! What is something you can do daily that will make you feel more alive? More in love with life? Is there something you secretly dream of or have been putting off because you don’t have the time, money, expertise?
If you are interested in joining me, choose your practice! Maybe it is finally taking the time to write just one page in your journal every day or maybe it is being more expressive with your gratitude. It can be anything! And know it is only for a month. Let’s stay connected and help motivate, support, and encourage one another. Here we go!
