A little thing that feels big
I’ve been practicing a new trick my sister, Kerry, taught me when she was here in May. I was feeling nervous about my son going away with friends after his high school graduation. I practiced this little ditty, and it helped me feel more empowered and less anxious about the situation.
Here's how it works: Simply envision things working out. Speak it out loud as if it already did.
Here’s an example given the situation above: I’m so happy Will and his friends had such a wonderful trip! He’s home now and all went well. Travel went smoothly and everyone is healthy, happy, safe and sound.
Now, do I think this kind of thinking alters outcomes? Not really. But what it does is calm your nervous system right on down.
Choosing to do this, instead of worrying about every possible thing that could go wrong, which has long been my MO, is much more pleasant and healthy. This kind of positive thinking cultivates joy, the other; negativity and stress.
It's similar to creating positive affirmations. What is the energy you want to bring forth? Strength, being capable, happy. Then, in the present tense write it down, and say to yourself, I am strong. I am capable. I am happy. Be the energy you want to feel, give, and receive.
