signs, synchronicities, and something more
“The universe is always speaking to us…sending us little messages, causing coincidences and serendipities, reminding us to stop, to look around, to believe in something else, something more.” – Nancy Thayer from the book, Signs; The Secret Language of the Universe by Laura Lynne Jackson
I love the feeling of being in flow, connected to the universe, mystery, and the angels busily working their magic all around us. I believe deeply in the healing language of signs. Sometimes I ask for them and sometimes they show up unexpectedly.
This fall in honor of my book’s one-year birthday, I’m offering an online therapeutic writing workshop. I’m really excited about it and feel a burst of energy swirling around this particular passion project.
I love a new creative project! The workshop will be for anyone and everyone no matter gender, writing experience, and whether or not you have endured a recent loss or whether or not you have read the book. It’s open to all and will be good medicine for the heart and soul.
Just this morning as I was working on content for the workshop, I wrote down one of the prompts about signs and what they mean to us, how they show up, and how to ask for them. I found the paragraph in my book where I write about signs and look down to mark the page number which happens to be 111.
What?!? Chills! For years now, 111 has been a special number to me. I see 111, 11:11 and 1:11 often. When I do, I pause and notice what I’m doing and how I’m feeling at the moment I see it. I believe it’s a message to trust my intuition and believe that everything is working out for our highest good. A quick google search about angel numbers revealed that 111 “signifies new beginnings, manifestation, and spiritual awakening” and “seeing 11:11 is associated with spiritual messages, synchronicities, and the awakening of consciousness.” (gaia.com)
After I sat in awe and wonder for a spell, I went inside and told my son about the sweet synchronicity. Fortunately, he is patient when I start talking about out of the ordinary some may say woo woo things. When I finish my story, I look down and see that it’s 11:11 on my phone. No joke!
And speaking of synchronicities, last weekend when I was in Providence, RI celebrating the life of my Uncle Bob, my dad’s younger brother, I happened to bump into a real-living sign.
My aunt had asked me a few weeks ago if I would speak at my uncle’s memorial service and while I was touched and honored to do so, I was also nervous. (Would it be okay to say, “do bong” in a chapel? He used to say this while listening to Bob Marley).
Saturday morning, before we left for the cemetery, I walked across the street to pick up coffee. Behind me, I recognized a woman named Meghan Riordan Jarvis that I don’t know but follow on Instagram. I had read and enjoyed her book, End of the Hour, A Therapist’s Memoir about grief last year. I even sent her my book in the Fall.
I looked behind me and said, “Meghan?” She looked a bit surprised and inquisitively said, “Yes”? I told her I loved her book and that I happened to be on the way to speak at a memorial service. She replied, “It must be a good omen to bump into a grief therapist on the way to a service.”
I smiled. A good omen indeed.
